Yoga For Me
What Is Yoga For Me
Yoga For Me™ is an innovative, inclusive approach to teaching yoga to young people and adults with learning disabilities.
Developed by Lisa Harwood and Erika Hillman Rees, this approach blends the structure of a traditional yoga class with adaptations that make sessions fun, engaging, confidence-building, and accessible to all.
Since 2018, Yoga For Me™ has been successfully delivered both in person and online, supporting participants to:
Learn yoga poses and body shapes in a clear, meaningful way
Build confidence in movement and self-expression
Feel comfortable and capable joining community yoga classes
Enjoy yoga as part of a safe, inclusive group
This approach was published in an academic journal in 2021 and continues to grow as a trusted framework for inclusive yoga delivery.
Yoga For Me™ stays true to the principles of traditional yoga, while adapting the delivery to meet learners where they are.
Each session follows five key areas:
Pranayama – simple, accessible breathing techniques
Tune in & Stretching – gentle movement to prepare the body
Yoga Games – playful, engaging activities that encourage participation
Focus Pose – building confidence, balance, and body awareness
Savasana – calm, supported relaxation
The result? Sessions that feel safe, structured, enjoyable, and empowering.
